A Little Abut Me

I'm for sure a product of the of growing up the 90's. No cell phones or wifi in the home and we came home when the street lights came home. Back when MTV had music, hence Allison Unplugged! I'm the oldest of six kiddos (1 full and 4 1/2) from the typical dysfunctional family. Both my maternal and fraternal Grandparents had a big influence on me growing up and have been some of my greatest teachers.

I feel blessed to have the knowledge to grow most of my family's food in our own backyard and I'm happy to share some of my knowledge with you all. Please keep in mind that I am no expert I'm just a 40ish year old gal who has had a love of gardening, herbalism, and healing. I believe we each have the ability to feed our families and heal ourselves with a little dedication and a whole lot of mindfulness.

New Intentions

New Intentions

Do you realize that if an intention was set for every action our world would be a very different place? I don’t think most people intentionally start a fight with their partner, or show up late for work on purpose, and I’m positive no one has ever gotten into an accident just so the highway can shut down and make you late for your dinner date. My point is if we would sit, breathe and realize that most things that “ruin our day” are actually a result in how we chose to react to a situation. So next time you are upset with a person, ask yourself “Did this person do _____ to intentionally piss me off?” The answer is probably No! Take a deep breath, turn on some music and shake it off! You are human; you are allowed to take things personally but acknowledge that it is just that and move on.

Now let’s take this concept a bit further. What if YOU set an intention for every action you made?

What if you set an intention for each meal you prepared for your family?

What if you set an intention for the next work project?

What if you set an intention as you washed your clothing?

What if you set an intention for the car ride to school with the kiddos in the morning?

What if you set an intention for your bank account?

What if you set an intention for your morning shower?

What if you set an intention with each oil change?

What if you set an intention with every new moon?

What if you set an intention every time you paid a bill?

What if you set an intention every time you turned in your time sheet?

What if you set an intention every time you cleaned your windows?

What if you set an intention for every interaction?

How different the world would be if we were that mindful. For the month of February I’m going to challenge myself to set some intentions in areas I need to work on the most. In the past setting intentions have developed into rituals for me. For example I now do a tea ritual most mornings that consist of a thankful/blessing list, deep breathing and some stretching. I created this ritual when I wanted to start my days with a grateful heart and kicked the coffee habit. It evolved into what it is now over a period of time…as I added new intentions and layers to the process. I think that if we set intentions for all of our actions people would/could feel the intention behind it. For example I always set an intention with every meal that I cook for my family, and I do cook more than I don't. My family thinks I’m an amazing cook but I think it’s just the love and intention I use when I cook. Now don’t get me wrong my family doesn’t always seem to be grateful for their clean laundry but I set an intention on their clothing as I wash it (laugh if you wish) but I do a little cleansing and blessing ritual with each load of laundry to protect my household (and myself). Same with the house, no one appreciates a freshly moped floor like a Momma, but I sure do bless the fuck out my house as I clean it!!! And maybe my family doesn’t always appreciate or know it but I know it and I know it helps my whole household and blesses my family. So start setting some intentions and watch your world change a little bit with each new intention you set.

If this is a new concept for you then I challenge you to start with something small, just one thing and set a timer on your phone. Set a timer to remind yourself of your intention and to keep yourself accountable. If you have been setting intentions for a while then I challenge you set a new intention, even an hourly intention for yourself, your household, or your business. I try to set a new intention/create a new ritual with each new moon. My goal is that one day all my actions and all my words will have intention behind them. I’m definitely NOT there!!! But I’m going to try to get there by setting one intention at a time.

Giveaway Time: I challenge you to set an intention or create a ritual to set your intention and tag me in it! If you are on IG or FB simply tag me in the photo/post/story. If you are on IG make sure you are tagging my current account allison_unplugged (it’s and underscore not a period!) Every tag will give you one entry, can only enter once a day. I will be keeping track from January 25th – February 9th, 2020.
